Historic Buildings
working with sensitivity and creativity
The Practice prides itself on its contribution to conservation within the locality and is as equally at home undertaking authentic refurbishment and sensitive intervention works to a listed building or building in a Conservation Area as it is working on cutting edge contemporary architecture. Since its formation in 1874 the Practice has been involved in a whole plethora of noteworthy buildings in North Staffordshire and beyond and, ironically due to this legacy, often finds itself ‘breathing new life into these old friends’ through both sensitive and authentic repair and refurbishment or through modernisation and contemporary intervention.
We are able to offer advice on, and assist with applying for Conservation Area and Listed Building Consent (on all, grades of Listed Building) and we will liaise with English Heritage and all other legislative and advisory bodies as necessary for the successful procurement of the project. Where appropriate we will explore the availability and assist with applications for grant funding. We are also able to offer detailed advice on historical architectural design, authentic period specification and construction detailing and where necessary we will supplement our own working knowledge with historical research as appropriate.
Where the situation permits, our apparent specialism of marrying contemporary design in a sensitive and controlled manner to create a unique synergy between ‘old with new’ has resulted in an ever growing number of highly successful conversion projects.
