Michelin Training Centre, Hanford, Stoke on Trent
The project involved the redevelopment of a run down former ATS tyre depot to provide a new UK training centre for Michelin Tyre Plc. Early thoughts were to demolish the building and to replace it with new however after producing 3D designs of how we intended to remodel the existing building we were able to persuade the client to retain and adapt the existing building thus saving time, money and bringing the facility on stream earlier than envisaged.
The existing 2 storey building was therefore stripped back to its bare shell and remodelled to create a new, modern and inspirational venue for the client’s customers and staff alike. Along with the administrative functions which take place in the office building, there are extensive workshops to the rear which were also modernised to enable state of the art training to be delivered aided by associated seminar rooms and ancillary welfare facilities.
The practice was commissioned to undertake a full traditional roll (RIBA work stages A to L incl) and to assemble the entire design team on the client’s behalf. The contract to build was let to Seddon following a competitive tender process and was completed in 2000 at a contract value of £650k.
