The latest of many re-ordering and repair projects at the church, The brief was to deliver a scheme for a new parish hall, on a narrow site immediately to the North of the existing church. Following an extensive options appraisal process, the resulting design forms a contemporary building, using traditional materials of sandstone, lead and glass.
The design seeks to announce the presence of the new hall with a processional entrance route from the west end of the church, creating a cloistered feel as visitors enter. Views are directed east and west along the site by way of the heavy sandstone spinal walls, screening the residential properties to the north. The canted spinal walls project into the landscape to root the building, and create synergy between the existing and new.
