Church extension and re-ordering, Denstone, Staffordshire
All Saints CE Church in Denstone Staffordshire is a grade 2* listed example of the work of notable Gothic Revival architect G.E. Street. The project was aimed primarily at providing an accessible entrance and facilities at the church, where the existing main entrance currently prevents access due to the presence of steps. The new extension provides a DDA compliant WC, kitchen and housing for a new boiler.
Wood Goldstraw Yorath’s planning and Faculty applications were ultimately approved, giving permissions for an extension where previous architects’ proposals had been unsuccessful. Local masons were employed to lay the carefully chosen stone, locally sourced from the same quarry as the original church. The distinctive contrast between the pink and white masonry was an important aspect of the design which was carefully specified and monitored during the build.
